THIS SESSION ANSWERS THE QUESTION '' What is Business Analysis''?
Origins of Business Analysis.
Session 2. Pg 2 of 6
Status: 19% Completed
Historically, IT enabled organisations to create information systems which improved business operations and management decision making.
However, as business operations changed, the focus changed towards developing new services and products.
But despite an increased investment in IT architecture, that supports service delivery and business growth, the benefits of such investment have not been delivered.
The technology enables development of information systems, but these rarely meet the requirements of the business or deliver the service that will result in competitive advantage.
So, the question that needs to be asked, and answered, is:
“What can IT do to exploit business opportunities and enhance the portfolio of products and services?”
Business analysis is the discipline that has been developed to move the focus from delivering IT systems that may, or may not work, to discovering what the business need is, and then advise on the appropriate solution.
